awkward, adv. & adj.
Of things: Untoward or unfavorable for one's purpose; ill-adapted for use; clumsy in operation
~Oxford English Dictionary
Awkward is straining away on the leg extension machine at the gym when someone sits down on the stationary bike, which just happens to face you. You both try not to make eye contact, but it's almost impossible.
The completely innocent person on the leg machine (totally not me) is making a face that is something akin to a constipated garden gnome. (Again, not me.) Meanwhile, the biking world champion over there has turned eighteen shades of purple. Both of them sweating and looking at everything else in the gym except at the area directly in front of them, like the normal folks do. Now we can add neck strain to this recipe.
But Really Awkward is realizing that some of the leggings you've been wearing to the gym for the last ten months become almost see-through when stretched too far. (Also, totally not me.)

Or that your beloved gym britches have a quarter sized hole in the cooter seam. (Totally not me...)
